"Performance Through Partnership" Horse Training
"Performance Through Partnership" horse training offers a unique and gentle approach to the education of the performance horse and rider. It is built upon a foundation of connection, communication, and understanding.
Untitled Document - Connection - Your Horse Sees You as a Calm, Confident, and Competent Herd Leader Whom He Trusts and Respects Enough to Follow Anywhere.
- Communication - You Communicate to Your Horse in a Language He Can Understand and Are Attentive to the Words He Speaks with His Body Language, Movement, Carriage, and Expressions.
- Understanding - You Understand Your Horse's Behaviors, Motivations, Instincts, Physical Condition, Capabilities, and Limitations, and You Know What Your Horse Needs to be Comfortable, Connected, and the Best Partner and Performer He Can Be.
Your horse can not think like you or speak your language. Your horse can not spontaneously change his behavior or his perception of the world around him. However, YOU can! You can think like a horse and see the world through his eyes. Being able to work with your horse's true nature is what being a successful horseman or horsewoman is all about!! "Performance Through Partnership" is about education and responsibility. Your education and your responsibility to your horse.
Horses are dependent creatures. Your horse completely relies on you on you for his physical health, training, and emotional well-being. Give your horse what he needs, and he will return the favor a thousand times over.
That's what I think is missing in "conventional" horse training. The horse's welfare is not a priority...nor is his connection to his handler/rider/trainer. I want a horse to perform at his highest level as much as anyone else, but not at the detriment of the horse. Here's what I don't understand: Why doesn't everyone want their horse to be as happy, healthy, and as comfortable as possible? A horse that is sore, hurt, stressed, resistant, or disconnected from his handler/rider can not...WILL NEVER outperform a horse that is willing, relaxed, balanced, strong, supple, pain-free, enthusiastic about his work, connected, and confident. ability Actually, that's not completely true. A horse can be forced into successfully performing at a high level, but it won't last forever. He will reach a point where he will be unable to sustain that kind of physical or emotional pressure. These horses are often referred to as "ring sour" or "difficult to train." You can see them wringing their tails, flipping their tongues over the bit, moving mechanically, gaping their mouths, and looking sullen. "Performance Through Partnership" isn't about quick fixes or fast results. It's about training a horse for a long and successful career.

That's an important question to know the answer to. You may think that your horse isn't a performer. He's just a weekend companion on trail, or you do some light riding in the arena, or go to a few local shows. Read this article
